looking for a contractual communications specialist to make meaningful contributions in the areas of publicity and media relations, internal communications, and institutional publications. This proven communications professional uses strong research and writing skills, organization, and attention to detail to plan, execute, and assess communications campaigns and activities across multiple platforms and audiences.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Research, write, and edit publicity and media relations materials including news releases, media advisories, and related resources.
  • Work with MPT staff and journalists to develop story ideas and generate media pitches, fulfill media requests for information and materials, and prepare interview materials and talking points as needed for responses.
  • Track media placements and report on outcomes of media outreach activities.
  • Help build and maintain contact lists and activity logs.
  • Research, write, and edit content for staff bulletins and other internal communications vehicles.
  • Assemble and organize information; write, edit, and proofread copy; and contribute basic graphic design to support development of institutional communications materials including reports, presentations, fact sheets, infographics, etc. 
  • Coordinate and oversee work of vendors to ensure assignment requirements are met.
  • Assist with the organization and execution of Communications Department responsibilities during special events and initiatives.
  • Support the Communications Department’s student internship program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years or more of experience in corporate communications, public relations, public information, media relations, journalism, or a related field.

Note: Candidates may substitute six (6) years of experience with effective performance of media relations and publicity for the required education and experience.

•Proven experience developing and implementing communications plans and strategies.

•Demonstrated experience developing and executing publicity and media relations campaigns.

•Professional presence with strong verbal communication skills, illustrating clear and strategic thinking.

•Proven experience writing in different styles for specific audiences.

•Well versed in the use of Associated Press Stylebook rules.

•Ability to write in varied styles and tones.

•Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.•Commitment to delivering quality work products and consistently meeting project deadlines.

•Comfort working in a hybrid workplace environment.

•Ability to perform basic graphic design using software such as Photoshop, Canva, etc.

•Experience using email marketing software such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, GovDelivery, etc.

•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
