Pay Rate: 22.00 per hour

Primary Purpose:
This position is responsible for overseeing the Accident & Health portfolio of products from the perspective of risk and profitability, recommending appropriate action as needed, and offering up solutions through a combination of rate adjustments, plan amendments, and distribution modifications. Functions to ensure that A&H underwriting guidelines are adhered to while working in concert with its reinsurers and Actuaries to make risk decisions requiring facultative approval.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Order necessary requirements based on group material submitted for completeness
- Analyze the risk factors on an enrollment form; apply appropriate medical risk for sound risk decisions utilizing approved medical guidelines provided
- Evaluate eligibility of the business (this includes participation, legitimacy of the business)
- Process data on web based underwriting applications, and appropriate worksheets
- Serves as subject matter expert and contact for North Star Marketing and TPA, works collaboratively with sales offices to meet company objectives while balancing risk
- Conducts user acceptance testing, adhering to test plans, and meeting all delivery dates
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with outside vendors and acts as liaison between staff and vendor
- Analyzes new business quote/proposal for accuracy
- Analyzes broker appointments
- Evaluate eligibility and enrollment requirements of new enrollees to employer group plan
- Evaluate employer changes, such as waiting period change requests, appeals from businesses and TPA
- Build and maintain relationships with internal partners to improve agent satisfaction
- Assists with special projects or requests
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong medical terminology and/or understanding of anatomy
- Bachelor’s Degree or Insurance-related work experience
- Business, finance, economics, and mathematics are particularly helpful.
- Knowledge of the health insurance market
- Demonstrates strong ability to work independently and to adjust schedule to meet service standards
- Proven ability to remain focused in fast paced environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with sales staff and department staff
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications, strong computer skills
- Proficient use of computer systems
- Demonstrates professional phone etiquette and interpersonal skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyze and evaluate information from a variety of sources and solve complex problems.
