Minimum 1+ years intrepreter experience required.
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Remote American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing within an Oklahoma school district. This position ensures effective communication between students, educators, service providers, and peers, supporting equal access to educational content and classroom interaction.
Key Responsibilities:Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa for students in a variety of academic settings via remote video platforms.
Support students during classroom instruction, school-related activities, and one-on-one sessions.
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and support personnel to ensure accurate and consistent communication access.
Maintain confidentiality of all student information and comply with FERPA and district policies.
Prepare for interpreting assignments by reviewing lesson plans, materials, and terminology.
Provide cultural mediation when appropriate to facilitate understanding between parties.
Document services and submit required reports as needed for compliance and tracking.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher preferred.
Certification from one of the following:
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher
Proficiency in American Sign Language and spoken English
Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in educational settings
Reliable internet connection and ability to work from a secure and quiet location
Preferred:
Experience with video remote interpreting (VRI) technology
Knowledge of Oklahoma state education requirements related to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
Familiarity with IEPs and special education procedures
This is a fully remote position.
Candidate must have access to a computer with webcam, headset, and stable high-speed internet.
May involve synchronous classroom interpreting and/or on-demand support based on the student schedule.
