Job Description
At the National Landing Business Improvement District (BID) , the Communications & Marketing Manager is a key member of the marketing, communications and events teams at National Landing. They are our most passionate storyteller, responsible for delivering compelling copy and marketing analytics for one of the fastest-growing districts in the DC region.
They will actively participate in evolving the voice, tone, and messaging strategy of the National Landing brand, working in concert with the Marketing team to pair art and copy that results in effective, cutting-edge campaigns. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and innovative thinker, has unmatched attention to detail and project management skills, and is an aspiring communications director who thrives in a collaborative work environment. The role will fulfill communication, marketing, and community outreach functions, including implementing strategic marketing campaigns, managing e-communications and website maintenance; writing and producing a variety of engaging content; leading data analysis and report-outs; and building strong connections within the National Landing community.
This role reports directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications and offers a hybrid working schedule of 4 days a week in office and 1 remote day, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content Creation & Editorial
Write, edit, and deliver compelling copy across all channels (website, email, newsletters, social media, marketing collateral, blog posts, press, reports) that resonates with target audiences and aligns with the brand voice
Identify and create opportunities to feature diverse, human voices across National Landing’s communications channels
Support in creating and editing dynamic video and photo content for social and digital platforms that furthers the BID’s storytelling and builds community
Conceptualize and storyboard digital communications content and campaigns in partnership with the Marketing team
Campaign Strategy & Analytics
Plan and implement strategic marketing campaigns for National Landing BID’s events, economic development initiatives, partner/sponsor programs and other priorities, as assigned
Measure impact across marketing communications using analytics tools, set benchmarks, and optimize performance of all touchpoints (email, website, social media, and campaigns)
Interpret and analyze digital analytics and share-out insights/recommendations to support marketing efforts
Lead audience analysis and market research to better inform marketing decisions, including on-site and post-event surveys
Track marketing advertising budget spend in collaboration with team
Manage paid social media campaigns to include geotargeting, job title targeting, budgeting, content/image selection
Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in social and digital marketing
Email Marketing & Website
Serve as editorial lead for the newsletter, writing and deploying weekly e-communications and e-blasts via MailChimp
Manage email content calendar to ensure messaging is fresh, accurate, and aligned with brand voice; collaborate across departments to collect diverse content
Seek opportunities to grow subscriber lists to reach a broader audience
Tackle email list segmentation and maintain a clean, up-to-date database
Oversee the BID’s website, monitoring for necessary updates and connecting with staff to ensure accuracy; opportunity to project manage upcoming website refresh
Design webpages that strategically reflect specific campaigns and work with the Events team to maintain BID’s event calendar. Create redirects and landing pages as needed for campaigns
Work with Geocentric to make updates to formatting and website design when necessary to better the user experience
Develop reporting as needed through Google Analytics
Community Engagement & Event Support
Act as a connector/liaison with small business leaders, tenants, and residents to deepen the BID’s connection within the community—garnering stories of the people and places that make our area diverse, appealing and vibrant.
Foster relations with local businesses, key stakeholders, influencers and partners
Enhance info-sharing systems to the BID’s external community stakeholders, new businesses, property managers, etc.
Collaborate across internal departments and with external partners to promote events, capture on-site content, and highlight diverse stories from small businesses, residents, and stakeholders
Support organizational initiatives that raise the profile of National Landing.
Work closely with Events team to deliver compelling, brand-aligned event promotional collateral and attendee/guest communications
Support BID events programming with on-site / real-time content capture for social
Work alongside Director and external PR agency to help with drafting and reviewing press materials or news related content, as needed
General Marketing & Communications
Continue to build transparency throughout the organization pertaining to marketing and communications efforts through frequent internal touch bases and regular, informative communications to staff
Work closely with colleagues in Planning, Development, Transportation, and Public Realm to coordinate messaging and elevate storytelling opportunities
Assist with the creation of strategies and campaigns for National Landing and its growing profile as a vibrant urban destination on both a local and national platform; support the implementation of the next phases of the BID’s communications efforts

Required Skills/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years strong marketing, social media, email marketing and website content in a relevant field
Creative copywriter and persuasive storyteller, with strong writing, editing and project management skills
Proven ability to deliver effective and concise messaging
Excellent communications, interpersonal and organizational skills
Strong understanding of social media platforms, online community building and digital analytics (Primarily Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, community forums and Google Analytics).
Strong problem-solving skills
Passion for placemaking, urban planning, beautification and community building
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work collaboratively in fast paced environment
Excellent customer service skills and standards. Courteous and professional communication
Ability to work independently, proactively, and collaboratively with other departments
Experience using Microsoft Office, G-Suite, CMS, Mailchimp, Sprout Social and Canva required; experience Adobe Creative Suite strongly preferred
A valid driver’s license is required for purposes of operating company motorized vehicle (owning a car not required)
Thrives in working in a dynamic, collaborative, fast-paced environment
Experience or background in PR, design, planning, architecture, community relations, nonprofit management is a plus
