The Director of Software Engineering leads and manages multiple full-stack engineering teams focused on developing scalable, resilient software solutions for banking customers using modern cloud technologies. This role involves driving the technical strategy, mentoring engineers, collaborating with product managers, and overseeing the deployment of microservices and web applications on AWS. The position requires extensive experience in software development, people management, and Agile practices within a financial technology environment.

Director, Software EngineeringAs a Capital One Director of Software Engineering, you'll work on everything from agent-facing web applications using cutting-edge open source frameworks, to highly-available RESTful microservices, to back-end Java based systems and Machine learning models using the hottest techniques in Big Data. You'll bring solid experience in emerging and traditional technologies such as: node.js, Java, GO, AngularJS, React, Python, REST, JSON, XML, Ruby, Perl, NoSQL databases, relational databases, Spark, Artifactory, Maven, and AWS/Cloud Infrastructure to name a few.In this role, you will be a part of the Bank Tech Org and will be leading our Agent Servicing group to provide deep technical expertise in rolling out features for our Bank customers( Consumer, Commercial and Small Business) using modern technologies in the Cloud on CapitalOne’s Web and Voice platforms. You will manage full stack engineering teams and drive the strategy , roadmap and own the execution for the customer self servicing portfolio. You will:

• Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product focused software engineers
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team.
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios
• Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack development tools and technologies
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
• Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
• Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity
• Work across to improve the velocity of your and other teams
• Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
• Break existing monolithic applications into micro service architectures and build new microservices

Basic Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 7 years’ experience in software development
• At least 5 years’ experience in people management

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a Master’s Degree in Software Engineering
• 10+ years’ of experience in software development
• 5+ years’ of experience in Agile practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Richmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800 for Director, Software Engineering

McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200 for Director, Software Engineering

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
